At the foot of Ypsarion mountain, is situated the village of Rachoni, one of the 5 oldest villages of Thassos (1519). The church of "Agios Georgios" dates from 1779 (Agios Georgios Settlement), while the church of the "Assumption of the Virgin" (“Koimisi tis Theotokou”) dates from 1822. The new seaside settlement has been built at 7 kilometers away from the old one, under the name of Skala Rachoniou.
