The Ancient Port (now known as Limanaki) consisted of two different types of ports, the Military Port and the Commercial Port. The Military Port was a closed type port, protected by two circular towers. It was a parking area for the Thassos fleet as well as that of the allies. The Commercial Port of Thassos is part of the Ancient Port and is considered an "open type" port. It was a port with great export growth until the 7th century AD where it reached today's Karnagio area. Traces of its ancient grandeur can be seen under the sea.
