Thassos is a Greek island of East Macedonia and Thrace, situated in northern Greece. The Municipality occupies 379 square kilometers and has a population of around 11.500 inhabitants. However, with the contribution of the “seasonal population”, the island can reach a total amount of 46.000 people. Thassos is an island particularly favored by nature that blends lush landscapes with picturesque and tranquil beaches and traditional villages. Tourism can be regarded as a very important contribution in the area and the island has a strong tourist activity. Lately, a focus on alternative forms of tourism was set, which has allowed our municipality to concentrate on cultural activities that could encourage the income of tourists also during the low season. Thassos, due to its very rich ancient
history, has many landmarks as well as historical books that help visitors and locals to travel through time. The 4 Museums featuring the island link the cultural heritage with the development of material culture: the Archaeological Museum, Theologos Folklore museum, Vagis sculpture museum and Limenaria folklore museum.
