In the 1950s and 1960s, the Museum hosted important exhibitions of prominent artists who significantly determined the then very strong and internationally respectable Zagreb art scene (Josip Vaništa, Miljenko Stančić, Ljubo Ivančić, Valerije Michieli, Ivan Kožarić, Antun Motika, Vjenceslav Richter, Edo Murtić, Tošo Dabac...). The retrospective of New tendencies movement, Tendencies 4 -  New Tendencies 4 was held at MUO in 1969.
