“My studio is a reanimation laboratory”, is a famous saying by Ivan Kožarić which best describes his attitude towards his work space. He regards the studio, not only as a dedicated place of work where works for public display are made, but as a place where continuous transformative processes happen. The showcasing of the artist’s personal space to the public, with all its inventory, which was first done in 1993 in the Zvonimir Gallery in Zagreb, was an astonishing feat of dislocation – a demystification of the dedicated work space and simultaneously – a transformation of the public display space into an intimate one. After it was completely dislocated in 2002 to Kassel for documenta 11, it was acquired by the City of Zagreb in 2007 and entrusted to the Museum of Contemporary Art Zagreb for keeping and showcasing.
