The loop made by a firm gesture of the hand is one of the motifs Kožarić always returned to. In them he inscribes the idea of ascension, of open opportunities accompanied by passion and brightness – a state of mind that infuses his entire oeuvre. Kožarić probably contemplated the idea of “Ascent” becoming a sculpture for a long time. When he decided enter the Competition for a monument to Marko Marulić in 1997, he wrote in his explanation: “That ‘drawing in space’ is a sculpture that relinquished its fullness for the will of lightness and thinness of ascent in the name of freedom. The space of one of the most beautiful city squares would rejoice to have it – they would breathe new life into each other because they respect each other in their differences.” The proposal was not realized, but “Ascent” found its place next to Lauba – House for People and Art.
