By ‘discovering’ golden paint in his studio, Kožarić gilded many of his works as well as everyday objects like shoes, closets, and studio doors, making them equally valuable through transformative gesture. He once called golden paint ‘our everyday Sun’ in an interview. The pinnacle of this idea was achieved in sculpture by grounding the Sun amongst passers-by during the 6th Zagreb Salon in 1971. “Grounded Sun” was then placed in front of the Croatian National Theatre in Zagreb. Placing the perfect sphere within the fabric of the city without a pedestal, label or the usual ceremony led to a series of unusual, positive and negative reactions among citizens. The negative reactions culminated with the barbaric burning of the sculpture which let to its removal.
