The year 1971 in Croatian art history is famous as a break-through year for public art. Therefore, one should mention the historical exhibition Possibilities for 71 produced by the latter institution, very relevant in that period too.

In addition to actions in public space self-initiated by the artists or group of artists, we noticed that there were several support structures such as the Proposals Section of the Zagreb Salon, the Student Center Exhibition Space, all of them making considerable effort in supporting new artistic practices. Important producer was also the Gallery of Contemporary Art, later Museum of Contemporary Art in Zagreb. One of their "exits" from the gallery space of the that encouraged new forms of presentation of the art works and new artistic expressions was the exhibition Possibilities for '71 oriented exclusively for the public space of Zagreb's Upper Town. It was an institutional critique coming from the institution itself. The exhibition lasted eleven days, from 9 to 20 June 1971. The curator of the exhibition, Davor Matičević, presented works of the so-called "new generation of Zagreb plastic artists". This term refers to artists who affirmed themselves through group or individual works in the end of sixties, early seventies in the Gallery of the Student Center in Zagreb and other cities through interventions in the public urban environment. The works at the exhibition were site-specific, highlighting the connection between art and life, and they appeared from the real need to shape the space of the culturally and infrastructurally neglected Upper Town.

The exhibition called upon very young, recently graduates of Zagreb Academy of Fine Arts,  Boris Bućan, Braco Dimitrijević, Sanja Iveković, Jagoda Kaloper, Dalibor Martinis, Davor Tomičić, Goran Trbuljak and Gorki Žuvela. Majority were and are recognized nationally and internationally as the key -historical-figures of the conceptual and contemporary art practices.
