Prehistoric traces indicate the existence of life in Limenaria since 5,600 BC. The settlement developed again during the Byzantine period. However, due to the destruction suffered in the 12th century and while pirate raids were still raging, the inhabitants were forced to create settlements inland, such as Neokastro. At the same time, many of the residents continued to maintain their properties at the coastal. With the establishment of the ore exploitation company, SPIEDEL, in 1905, had been built Skala Kastro, known today as Limenaria. Nowadays, "Palataki" consists of a remaining cultural heritage.

At the edge of the Kampos plateau is the Kastro Village (or Neokastro), built during the Crusades, as a unique solution to escape from pirate raids. In the place of the Prophet Elias, the ruins of the fortress for the protection of the inhabitants, built by the Byzantine emperor Manuel II Palaiologos, are preserved. With the establishment of the ore exploitation company, SPIEDEL, in 1905 Skala Kastro, known today as Limenaria, was created. The patron saint of the settlement is Ag. Athanasios, with the homonymous church dominating the settlement.
